Prevent Mice In Your Trailer

A mouse can squeeze through a crack or hole that is approximately 1/4 inch across. Their sharp teeth can increase the size of any opening that isn’t big enough. Once inside, they’ll seek food and water, and make nests using insulation, string, fabric.  The damage can be minor or massive.
Here are the basics; set traps, close gaps, cut off food and water sources.
TRAPS
We use glue boards. If you choose conventional traps: place traps perpendicular to walls, with the trigger facing toward the baseboard to ensure mice run directly into the trap as they run.
GAPS
  • Pay special attention to seams and areas where different materials meet and under counters, cabinets, etc.
  • Expanding spray foam: Spray foam expands as it dries to fill spaces and keep mice out. Be careful not to use too much
  • Silicone caulk: Use caulk to seal small cracks and gaps.
  • Use door sweeps or weatherstripping at the bottom of exterior doors.
  • Cover heating vents (w aluminium foil)
  • Keep skirting free of cracks, make sure it is installed snuggly.
FOOD & WATER
Clean all counterspace.
Vaccum and clean all floors-carpet, tile, anything.
Winterize your trailer (all spouts will be covered and water drained from pipes).
Pack and remove all food from the camper; this includes spices, condiments, baking ingredients.
Remove any bird baths or animal feeders (having these may be enjoyable but creates habits for area animals).
